The Ministry of the Environment (Sedema) of the capital published in the Official Gazette of Mexico City the Sustainable Building Certification Program (PCES), which leaves the program created since 2008 void and contemplates the inclusion of more types of buildings, as well as an update of the sustainability criteria and the integration of a mandatory aspect.
The operation of the PCES is in charge of the Chile Mobile Number List Directorate of Impact Assessment and Environmental Regulation (DGEIRA) and its objective is to promote and encourage the reduction of polluting emissions, as well as the efficient use of natural resources during the design, construction and operation of buildings in Mexico City.
It is aimed at city buildings in the design, construction and operation stages that are intended for the following uses: housing, commercial, services, recreational, entertainment and mixed uses.
Certification process in 4 stages
The PCES certification process consists of four stages: registration, implementation, certification and certificate issuance.
1. Registration
During the registration stage, a person authorized by the DGEIRA carries out a diagnosis of the building and develops a strategy to improve the environmental performance of the property.
2. Implementation
In the implementation stage, the owner of the building carries out adjustments to its facilities in order to accredit the sustainability criteria of the program.
3. Certification
The Certification stage refers to the moment in which the Certification Body (company accredited by the Mexican Accreditation Entity and approved by the DGEIRA) corroborates that the sustainability criteria are in compliance in accordance with the provisions of the PCES.
4. Certificate issuance
Finally, after successfully completing the previous stages, the DGEIRA issues the corresponding certificate.
The Sustainable Buildings Certification Program provides for three certification categories: compliance, efficiency and excellence, which are achieved according to the score obtained derived from the application of sustainability criteria.
More about certificates
The certificates are valid for three years and can be revalidated in subsequent periods as long as the conditions for which they were issued are maintained or improved.
To obtain the Sustainable Building Certificate, the application of the sustainability criteria listed in the PCES must be accredited, which are actions focused on improving the environmental performance of buildings. The program has 124 criteria grouped into the categories of: Community Action, Water, Air and Mobility, Biodiversity, Quality of Life for Users, Energy, Materials and Waste, Efficient Energy Networks and Social Responsibility.
